The weather is getting cooler and we are spending more time inside, and as a result dust build up will increase. Dust is a buildup of lose fibers that come from items such as clothes, upholstery and even human skin. Regular basis house cleaning and carpet cleaning are essential to fighting dust and increasing indoor air quality. Here are several tips to help you clean and reduce dust build up in your home.
Regular Basis Vacuuming: Carpets act like giant sponges trapping dust, dirt and allergens. If your carpets are not cleaned on a regular basis then they will wear out quicker which can make your home dusty. We recommend using a vacuum with a beater bar which vibrates your carpet so dust particles will loosen and be sucked away. Vacuuming on a regular basis will help reduce dust build up and increase the longevity of your carpets.
Clean Hard to Reach Areas: Dust usually builds up in hard to reach areas because there is less human activity and reduced air circulation. Areas that typically don’t get cleaned often such as underneath furniture, tops of high shelves and inside closets gather dust quicker. When cleaning your home it is important to remove dust from these areas. We recommend using a microfiber cloth because the microfibers create an electrostatic charge that attracts dust particles.
Clean Upholstery: Upholstery items such as couches and chairs collect a lot of dust and when someone goes to sit on them dust gets released into the air. You can remove dust build up by beating cushion outside and using a suction attachment with your vacuum. You will also want to consider having your upholstery professionally steamed cleaned to not only remove dust but increase the longevity of your furniture.
Wash Bedding: Since dust particles are created by our own skin our beds contain a higher concentration of dust than any other place in a typical home. Beds also provide a nice habitat for microscopic organisms known as dust mites. To make sure your bed is dust free you should wash your bed sheets on a regular basis.
