The Flu season has come and it has hit hard, infecting record numbers of people and forcing some major cities to declare a public health emergency. You may not be able to stop the flu entirely, but there are preventative measures you can take in the office to reduce your chances of catching and spreading the flu.
Disinfect: In the office there are many place germs like to hide and unfortunate they are the places we come in contact with the most. Doorknobs, desktops, phones, keyboards, light switches, sink faucets and flushometers are all hot spots for the flu to hide. Keep a container of disinfecting wipes at your desk to clean your space on a regular basis. Also keep a bottle of disinfecting hand wash at your desk for use after touching a germ hot spot.
Wash: Washing your hands frequently is a great way to prevent the flu, but there other items we use in our daily life that should be washed too. In case you rinse your coffee mug, thermos or utensils with water to clean them you should start washing them with soap instead. The flu often enters our body through our mouths that is why it is important to wash items you put in your mouth such as coffee mugs and eating utensils instead of just rinsing them with water.
Take Precautions: Aside from maintaining a clean office, flu prevention starts with getting a vaccine, although it is not 100% effective, it will drastically reduce your chances of catching the flu. Also if you are feeling any flu-like symptoms stay home, there is no point in putting the rest of the office at risk.
