Recently a Friend of Arco Cleaning was in an unfortunate and scary scenario. Their car broke down in freezing temperatures and they were stuck waiting for help on the side of the road. Seeing as we have crews running around Northern Westchester County NY we wanted to share with you some of the ways we have them prepare for Winter in their vehicles. You never know when something can go wrong. Here are some Winter Survival Tips for your safety.
Dress Appropriately: Don’t rely on your cars heater to stay warm. Worst case scenario your heater breaks or you get stuck and your battery is dead you will need to find a way to stay warm. Wearing a jacket is a no brainer during the winter, but you can also keep a spare set of gloves and hat in the glove box in case you get stuck in cold weather. A folded blanket can also be stores under or behind seats.
Flares: When it is snowing out visibility decreases while driving. In case your car gets stuck in the snow you can use flares to warn other drivers of your presence and signal for help.
Flashlight: Another handy tool to keep in your car is a flashlight. A flashlight can help you find items in your car, make a repair or signal for help when it is dark outside.
Charged Cell Phone: In case of an emergency a cell phone can be a lifeline if you need are stuck or in need of help. Smartphones have GPS, Flashlight Apps and Weather alerts to help stay safe.
Snow Shovel: A snow shovel can help you dig out snow from around your car in case you get stuck or boxed in from a snow plow.
Ice Scrapper: It is dangerous to drive with ice on your windshield and rear window because of low visibility. Either park indoors or purchase an ice scrapper.
Jumper Cables: Winter or not winter jumper you never know when you might need a jump.
Tow Chain or Rope: If you get stuck in deep snow a tow chain or rope can help pull you out.
Tool Kit: Great to have in case you need to make minor motor repairs.
